Jingzhou Museum

Established in 1958, the Jingzhou Museum is located in the famous national historic and cultural city Jingzhou. It has developed into a local comprehensive museum integrating exhibition, publicity, education, cultural relics collection and protection, protection of ancient buildings, archaeological excavation and research, construction and management of archaeological sites and parks, a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, a national public welfare unit and one of the initial national first-grade museums in China.It has high comprehensive strength in the national cultural relics and museum field, and also have prestigious reputation and influence in the international arena.

The existing building covers a total area of 50,122 square meters containing building area of 23,000 square meters. It consists of seven parts: exhibition building, treasure house, office area, archaeological building, preservation building, Kaiyuanguan and staff canteen. There are more than 8,000 square meters of exhibition halls and 2,500 square meters of temporary exhibition area.Eight permanent exhibition halls including the "Jianghan Plains Primitive Culture Exhibition", "Jianghan Plain Chuhan Bronze Culture Exhibition", "Jingzhou Unearthed Bamboo Slips Exhibition", "Collection of Fine Porcelain Exhibition", "Jingzhou Fenghuang Hill No.168 Han Tomb Exhibition", "Ancient Lacquerware Exhibition","Chuhan Embroidery Exhibition", "Jingzhou Chu Tomb and Xiongjiazhong Tomb Unearthed Jade Exhibition" have been constructed there. Meanwhile, it launches or introduces six to ten temporary displays each year.The infrastructure in the pavilion is complete and the environment is elegant and pleasant. The 11,000 square meters of vegetation area mainly includes vine plants, national-protected arbor trees and 50 varieties of flowers and other plants. It is an excellent workplace for the establishment of forest cities in Hubei Province, winning 15 national awards and 31 provincial awards.

Jingzhou Museum is one of the national first-grade museums in China, the leader among municipal museums, and the national 4A-level tourist attractions.

It collects 169,633 artifacts, including 561 pieces of national first-class artifacts, 1,041 second-level and 15454 pieces (sets) third-class ones.

Chu Culture Exhibition:

1.Silk embroidery

Embroidery of Chu State covers almost all kinds of pre-Qin silk fabrics, including yarn, Hu(crepe),Luo(gauze), Juan(spun silk), Wan and Gao( fine white silk) , Ti(thick silk), Zu(silk belt), Qi(damask), Jin(brocade),Tao(silk braid)etc.

2.Bronze ware

Bronze ware is the most important part of the bronze smelting of Chu State. The custom, ideology, technological level and cultural process at that time have all been integrated in it. The most representative bronze ware of Chu was the bronze musical instrument —chime bell.

3. Lacquering craft

Chu people lived in a kingdom of lacquerware. The daily practical utensil and entertainment tools they used in life and even the burial objects after death were all lacquer articles. These cultural relics, with exquisite materials and exquisite craftsmanship, are precious cultural heritage of the country and enjoy high historical, scientific and artistic value. They are viewed as the unique approach to delve into Jingzhou.
