Jingzhou Three Kingdoms Park was established in December 1987 and opened to the public in January 1990. Its name was inscribed by General Zhang Aiping. 2. Oath of the Peach Garden (Scenic spot)
At the end of the Eastern Han, corruption plagued the court and chaos engulfed the realm. The three men of resolve—Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei—burned incense and swore brotherhood in the peach garden behind Zhang Fei’s manor. They vowed, “Join hearts and work together to save those in distress; serve the country above and bring peace to the common people below,” and agreed, “We do not ask to be born on the same day of the same month of the same year, only to die on the same day of the same month of the same year.” This event, known in history as the “Oath of the Peach Garden,” became a timeless tale, exemplifying the spirit of loyalty and righteousness and laying a core foundation for Liu Bei’s later establishment of the Shu-Han regime.
3. The Admonition to My Son (Scenic spot)
The “Admonition to My Son” is a family letter written in his later years by Zhuge Liang, the statesman of the Three Kingdoms period, to his son Zhuge Zhan. The text expounds profound principles of self-cultivation and scholarship, emphasizing “Cultivate oneself through tranquility, nurture virtue through frugality,” and advocating a life ideal of being indifferent to fame and fortune while aiming far. It is not only a model of ancient family instructions but also a condensation of Zhuge Liang’s lifelong wisdom and expectations, exerting a far-reaching influence on traditional Chinese culture and educational thought. To this day, it is regarded as a classic for self-cultivation and aspiration.
4. Discussing Heroes over Warmed Wine (Scenic spot)
“Discussing Heroes over Warmed Wine” is a classic episode in Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Cao Cao invited Liu Bei to drink, using green-plum warmed wine to talk about the heroes of the realm. Cao Cao evaluated figures like Yuan Shao and Liu Biao one by one, finding them no cause for concern, and finally declared, “Among the heroes under heaven today, only you and I!” Startled, Liu Bei dropped his chopsticks; just then thunder rumbled, and he used a fear of thunder as a pretext to deftly defuse Cao Cao’s test. This passage highlights Cao Cao’s keen eye for talent and his presence as a formidable hero, while also reflecting Liu Bei’s tact and ability to conceal his intent.
5. J-5 Fighter Jet (Scenic spot)
The J-5 fighter was a main combat aircraft produced by China in the 1950s and equipped by the Air Force in the 1950s and 1960s. It possessed excellent tactical performance; its agility and ultra-low-altitude capabilities were particularly outstanding. In hundreds of air battles for resisting U.S. aggression and aiding Korea and for national air defense, it achieved repeated merits, training an entire generation of air combat heroes. Former Air Force Commander Wang Hai, Deputy Commanders Lin Hu and Li Yongtai, and renowned air combat hero Du Fengrui once flew this aircraft, shooting down or damaging dozens of enemy planes and striking fear into the enemy.
6. Spring and Autumn Terrace (Scenic spot)
“Guan Yu Reading the Spring and Autumn at Night” portrays the classic image of the Three Kingdoms general Guan Yu as loyal, righteous, wise, and brave. It tells how, while temporarily in Cao’s camp, Guan Yu read by candlelight at night from the Confucian classic Spring and Autumn, demonstrating his loyalty to the Han and his noble integrity. This story not only highlights Guan Yu as a cultured general accomplished in both letters and arms but also symbolizes his unwavering loyalty, making him revered as the “Saint of War” and a moral exemplar, profoundly influencing Chinese ethical culture.
